Speaker Bio
I am an exercise physiologist with ~M in federal funding building pivotal digital interventions and databases for exercise management in type 1 diabetes, a key role in the VA Office of Connected Care for wearables implementation, and high-profile publications (h-index = 20). I utilize big data analytics and behavioral frameworks to develop and implement personalized self-management interventions for diabetes. During my postdoctoral fellowships I tested the feasibility of various approaches, leading me to transition from in-person peer groups to personalized, informatics-based digital methods. For my NIH mentored research scientist award I am developing an informatics-based digital intervention to promote safe exercise for adults with type 1 diabetes. Training foci have included mobile health intervention development, diabetes technology, and machine learning to evaluate interventions, predict intervention response based on time series data, and cluster individuals by their responses. These skills are critical to the automated personalization of the digital intervention. I am also building a profile as a multiple principal investigator or co-investigator extending these concepts to type 2 diabetes, sleep disorders, and mental health. I am strongly interested in implementation channels through both commercial and healthcare systems.
