About Dr. Jonathan Rothberg

Dr. Rothberg was born in 1963 in New Haven, Connecticut. He earned a B.S. in chemical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a Ph.D. in biology from Yale University. A winner of The Wall Street Journal's Gold Medal for Innovation and Nature Methods' first Method of the Year award, Dr. Rothberg’s scientific work has been featured on the covers of Cell, Science, and Nature. He is the first person ever to be named four times as a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer, is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering, and was named a Life Trustee of Carnegie Mellon University. For his invention of massively parallel DNA sequencing, he is the recipient of the 2010 Connecticut Medal of Technology, the 2011 Biochemical Analysis Prize from the DGKL, an Honorary Doctor of Science from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and was personally awarded the National Medal of Technology by President Obama in May 2016.
