Speaker Bio
Erica Plybeah is a clinical informatics consultant turned technology entrepreneur with extensive experience in health information technology, acute patient care, clinical research, pharmacy, and oncology. She has led the development and implementation of healthcare solutions for renowned organizations including Epic Systems, Cerner, Flatiron Health, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, working across settings from small practices to 1,000+ bed hospitals.
Rooted in her humble beginnings and deeply connected to communities affected by chronic illness, Erica founded MedHaul, a digital platform that addresses transportation barriers for vulnerable patient populations. Despite the fact that Black founders receive only 0.05% of startup capital, Erica has successfully scaled MedHaul to 15 states in just four years, impacting more than 100,000 families. She has raised over $7 million in venture capital from prominent investors, including Morgan Stanley, Google, Citi, multiple BCBS health plans, and Merck, making her one of few Black female founders to raise over $1M in venture capital. Her work highlights her resilience and commitment to advancing healthcare access in underserved communities.
A native of Greenwood, Mississippi, and an alumna of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Erica is also a scout investor for Lightspeed Ventures, where she focuses on early-stage healthcare technology. She is a distinguished fellow of several prestigious organizations, including the Aspen Healthy Communities Fellowship, the Rock Health Innovation Fellowship, and the Women Business Leaders in Healthcare (WBL) Fellowship. Deeply committed to her community, Erica mentors through local initiatives that work to eliminate poverty and empower youth. Her dedication extends to her active involvement in professional organizations like ACHE, HIMSS, and NAHSE.
