As the Interim Director of Public Art in the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture in Boston, Birgit Wurster (she/her/hers) leads the city’s public art vision, overseeing the commissioning, conservation, and daily operations of Boston’s municipal art programs.
She has previously held positions in planning, wayfinding design, and architectural design at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and Harvard University. Her educational and professional work has been centered around design and art as a means to advance equity and uplift the everyday experiences of residents and visitors in Boston.
Birgit received a Master’s Degree in Architecture from Harvard University as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
